Clever BRITNEY SPEARS has found a way to win back favour after being snapped driving through Malibu, California with her baby son on her lap - by hoping her blunder will make other mums think hard about child safety.

The pop superstar has already come clean about the dangerous gaffe, which had family groups enraged - and almost cost her a hefty fine.

In an interview last week (ends10FEB06), she called the incident “a mistake,” explaining she was trying to dash away from paparazzi without restraining her son SEAN PRESTON.

Now, speaking exclusively to America’s People magazine, Spears urges other parents to take child safety more seriously.

She says, “I love my baby more than anything, and as unfortunate an experience as this has been for me and my family, if it brings more attention to child safety then I fully support that.”

Pop tart Britney Spears was again rushing down the Pacific Coast Highway on a Monday. But this time, the new mom has a good reason; she was rushed to the emergency room.

News site TMZ is reporting that the Malibu resident was at the Malibu Urgent Care sometime on Monday.

The site has retrieved this picture of Britney and it appears she is getting back into the car after a visit to the center.

Mondays have not been kind to Britney of late. Just last week, she was snapped as she drove down the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu with baby Sean Preston on her lap.

She has been hammered with criticism from that incident and likely has been under a great deal of stress.

Recall that while she was still pregnant with Sean Preston, Brit made headlines with a rushed trip to the emergency room of Sacred Heart Hospital in West Destin, Florida last April complaining of the same ailment.

Pop princess Britney Spears will be heading to New Orleans, Louisiana to attend the first Mardi Gras celebration since Hurricane Katrina hit last summer.

The Louisiana native will appear on US show ‘Good Morning America’ on 28 February, when they broadcast live from the city.

Spears will help support recovery efforts and will have a special surprise, to be announced, for local fans.

Britney Spears has taken responsibility well, some of it for driving with her baby son, Sean Preston, sitting in her lap.

“I made a mistake and so it is what it is, I guess,” Spears tells “Access Hollywood” in an interview that was to air Thursday.

Several photos published Tuesday showed Spears driving her sport utility vehicle in Malibu, Calif., with her 4-month-old son perched on her lap rather than strapped into a car seat in the back seat.

The 24-year-old pop star said she did it because of a “horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi.”

In response, X17, the agency that snapped the pictures, said they were snapped “in a very peaceful context, in which photographers exhibited no aggressive behavior.”

“Being put in the situation that I was in, it was kind of bad with the paparazzi,” Spears tells “Access Hollywood.” “Last week, my mom and I went out and they were on us really bad, so you instinctively do what you need to do.”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has said it won’t pursue any charges.

Sean Preston, who was born in September, is Spears’ first child. She is married to Kevin Federline, a former backup dancer.

Britney Spears has started meeting up with her ex-husband JASON ALEXANDER again - because he lives in the same Los Angeles apartment block as her dad.

The couple only wed for 55 hours but sources claim the pop star is still friendly with her father JAMIE’s neighbour, and has been meeting him in Studio City for heartfelt chats.

The publication has even tracked a regular weekly visiting schedule, claiming Britney visits Alexander on Wednesdays, between 2pm and 5pm.

This latest news follows months of speculation about the state of Britney’s marriage to dancer KEVIN FEDERLINE.

In Touch also claims the couple had a public fight at their favourite restaurant, Moonshadows, last Friday (03FEB06), after which Federline stormed out, leaving a weeping Britney to dine alone.
