Britney Spears: ‘I Will Not Quit Music For Motherhood’

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

Pop princess Britney Spears refuses to give up her career to be a stay-at-home-mother, because her baby is happier when she sings.

The Toxic star, who on Tuesday night (09MAY06) announced she is pregnant with her second child with husband Kevin Federline, claims her singing and dancing has a positive effect on son Sean Preston reports FemaleFirst UK.

Spears, who walked out onstage unannounced after a commercial break , gave no details about herself, including her due date. She also never mentioned her husband, Kevin Federline – though earlier in the program Letterman and bandleader Paul Shaffer made a wisecrack about him.

“Don’t worry, Dave, it’s not yours,” the singer joked.on Tuesday

“Oh. Well, I think that’s good news for both of us,” Letterman responded.

“So, we’ve established now that you are, in fact, pregnant, is that right?” asked Letterman.

“Yes sir,” Spears replied.

Spears insists she would never neglect her children because of work.

She says, “I genuinely love to sing and dance. When I get in a creative mood, I can’t shut up. It’s the craziest thing.

“At one point I was thinking of being a home mom, but when my son sees me dance he lights up. Then I know what I’m supposed to be doing - if Mom’s happy, baby’s happy!

“I’ve been meeting with different people to work on the album and looking at different (movie) scripts.

But I’ve mainly been concentrating on my son.”

Spears wed Federline in September 2004, and the pair began talking about starting a family soon after. “I can see myself as a mom. Next year at 23, I am so there,” she told PEOPLE shortly after the wedding. Just four days short of the couple’s first wedding anniversary, she had accomplished that goal.

Britney Spears confirms pregnancy on The Late Show

Britney Spears is expecting her second child, she told David Letterman during a surprise visit to his Late Show on Tuesday.

“Don’t worry, Dave, it’s not yours,” the singer joked.

“Oh. Well, I think that’s good news for both of us,” Letterman responded.

Spears, who walked out onstage unannounced after a commercial break (and then read off the evening’s Top 10 List), gave no details about herself, including her due date. She also never mentioned her husband, Kevin Federline – though earlier in the program Letterman and bandleader Paul Shaffer made a wisecrack about him.

“I think that K-Fed is, you know, would have to be getting awful busy at a quick rate,” to be expecting another child, said Shaffer.

“Well, what else does he have to do?” Letterman quipped.

After Spears came out, she said of their banter: “I liked the whole prep. It was cool I think you did a very good job.”

“So, we’ve established now that you are, in fact, pregnant, is that right?” asked Letterman.

“Yes sir,” Spears replied.

Spears’s appearance was a last-minute arrangement that came about after the singer’s rep called and “said (Britney) wanted to be on the show and this is what she’d announce,” a Late Show insider told PEOPLE. “We were psyched.”

Spears, 24, and Federline, 28, already have a son, Sean Preston, who was born in September of last year. For Federline, this will be his fourth child. He already has a daughter Kori, 3, and son Kaleb, 1, with actress Shar Jackson.

Of the anticipated addition to the family, “Kevin would love another little girl,” a pal tells PEOPLE.

As for her career, Spears told PEOPLE in February, “I’m going to (get back to work), but I’m going to do it with definite balance for my baby because I want him to have the best of both worlds.”

Spears, who lives with Federline and “Sean P” in their newly remodeled home in Malibu, calls motherhood “such an intense experience.” Of her domestic life out of the spotlight, she added: “I’m happy. I’m very blessed. I have a beautiful home, a wonderful family, supportive, loving people around me. I have a great life.

Recently, she briefly returned to the spotlight by making a guest appearance on Will & Grace.

Meanwhile, Federline is following in his wife’s footsteps: His debut album Playing with Fire is scheduled for release in August.

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

She says, “He loves ice cream - it makes him sleep better.” While Spears loves to treat her son with the frozen dessert, she insists she will be a strict mother when Sean is older. She explains, “I definitely want rules in my house. I’m from the south and we’re very strict, you have to say, ‘Yes ma’am.’ “But at the same time the way of raising kids in LA is too strict. Some people won’t let their kids go outside and get dirty; he’s a boy.”

Spears says, “My husband has an iPod and my sister has one in hot pink - we need to get me an iPod. Everybody has one but me. “(On my CD player) I’m taking it back, I’m listening to an old DIXIE CHICKS live CD, it’s great.”

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

Pop superstar BRITNEY SPEARS was “dumbfounded” when she first saw a sculpture of her naked on all fours, giving birth on a bearskin rug. The TOXIC singer found the anti-abortion artwork, called Monument To Pro-Life: The Birth Of Sean Preston, hilarious. DANIEL EDWARDS’ work went on display at the Capla Kesting Fine Art gallery in Brooklyn, New York City, last month (APR06). She says, “I think it’s the most hysterical thing I’ve ever seen in my life. “My assistant and I were totally dumbfounded when we saw it. We couldn’t believe somebody actually did this.” However, Spears has no interest in buying the sculpture for her Malibu, California, home. She adds, “No thanks. They can display it somewhere, but not in my beautiful home.”
