Entertainment Weekly was given official access to four unmastered tracks from Britney Spears‘ way-under-wraps upcoming album (label insiders say that all song leaks on websites such as perezhilton.com are not only unsanctioned, but often incomplete) — and the first one’s a doozy. Produced by Bloodshy & Avant, the Swedish team behind her 2004 smash ”Toxic,” ”Piece of Me” kicks off with her standard breathy-sexy growl over a thumping hook: ”I’m Mrs. American dream/ Since I was 17.” Then things get darker: ”I’m Mrs. Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous/I’m Mrs. ‘Oh my God, that Britney’s shameless’/ I’m Mrs. ‘Extra, extra, this just in’ / I’m Mrs. ‘She’s too fat, now she’s too thin.”’ At other points in the song, she refers to ”bad media karma” and insists, ”Another day, another drama/ I can’t see the harm in working hard and being a mama.” According to her reps, the song may very well be her second single after the already charting ”Gimme More.”

The spare, glitchy ”Radar” is also credited to Bloodshy, and promises, ”Boy, I’ve got my eyes on you,” accompanied by Vocoder ”da da da’’s and what sounds not unlike a real live Doppler radar machine.

”Break the Ice,” meanwhile, may remind some of Nelly Furtado’s 2007 hit ”Say It Right” — and for good reason; it also gets its sound from Nate ”Danjahandz” Hills (the producer behind ”Gimme More”).

Kanye West has accused MTV of exploiting Britney Spears to improve their ratings.

The rap star said that the music network knew she wasn’t prepared to perform at the Video Music Awards on Sunday, but they let her go ahead with her less than spectacular performance anyway.

“Man, they were just trying to get ratings, and they knew she wasn’t ready and they exploited her,” West said this morning on Sirius Satellite Radio programme ‘The Morning Mash Up’.

“They exploited her, they played me and I really don’t mess with MTV,” he said.

Britney Spears didn’t end up working with Criss Angel on her VMA comeback performance, but her stage show was certainly full of illusions. Her lip-syncing was meant to give her the appearance of an actual singer, and her spray-on tan was supposed to make it look like she’d spent hours in the gym.

“She had an ab-defining spray tan pre-show to create the illusion of more tone,” a source tells Us.

No one was more shocked watching Britney’s performance at MTV’s Video Music Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday night than the 25-year-old popstar herself.

“She was also able to see video of herself throughout the auditorium,” a backstage source tells Us Weekly. “She flipped out. She came running off the stage, yelling ‘Oh, my God, I looked like a fat pig! I looked like a fat pig!’ She was inconsolable.”

Before her now-notorious performance at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas, Britney Spears had a spat with celebrity hairstylist Ken Paves, People Magazine reports in its latest issue.

Weeks before the awards show, “Britney had requested his two female assistants [to do her extensions] since she prefers women around her,” and was disappointed when Paves himself arrived, says a Spears source. The stylist soon left, taking his hair with him.

Looks like Britney’s brother Bryan is in Las Vegas to support her. The two left the Luxor Hotel and hit the strip for a night out. Photographers were literally falling over themselves to get a decent shot of Britney and even though it was the middle of the night, Brit wore very dark sunglasses. She spent most of the evening at the Bellagio hotel and casino before heading back to her hotel.

Some blame the outfit. Others point a finger at Sarah Silverman. Still others question MTV’s judgment in the first place to open the show with Britney Spears.

But whatever the reason, the pop star’s lackluster performance of her new single “Gimme More” is getting universally bashed the day after her supposed “comeback” in a sparkly black bikini and blonde weave on Sunday’s Video Music Awards.

“Britney was supposed to wear a matching corset that she opted out of wearing at the last minute,” a source tells People mag. “She was just plain nervous because of all the hype and she’s embarrassed.”

Adds another, “She looked disappointed” backstage after the performance.

“She was extremely nervous. It’s been awhile since she’s done this, and she was performing in front of all her peers, on live TV. She just got out there and froze,” says a source who was also backstage as well as at rehearsal (watch the clip). “People who were at rehearsal saw something else. It was good. It really was.”
