Britney fans had been hopeful that her long-awaited, as-of-yet untitled Britney Spears album would be hitting record store shelves in the next few months, but those dreams have been dashed. Despite being out of rehab and back in the studio, and although Britney has given some surprise shows in Los Angeles, a rep for Spears said in an interview that the new album from the “Toxic” singer will not be released until 2008.
Leslie Sloane, the rep for Britney Spears, gave an interview to Life & Style magazine where she said the new album from Britney Spears will no longer come out in 2007 as planned. Sloane told the magazine, “I put her on hiatus. Brit’s album is pushed until ‘08. If she has no album, there’s no reason to do anything…Let’s go on hiatus until we have a campaign to do.” With that news, the comeback of the troubled mother-of-two has been put on hold, and no solid plans have materialized for when the record might drop.
The news of Britney Spears’ hiatus took her record label, Jive, by surprise. Executives as Jive Records are worried that the comeback album may be a complete disaster, as nothing has been settled upon and no agreement is in place. A source told Life & Style that, “I’m surprised the album wasn’t pushed back to 2009. Everything’s up in the air with the album right now. Jive hated the songs Britney was coming up with, except for a few. The executives are not happy. And she didn’t want to listen to anyone. Everything was a problem for her. They wanted her to work with certain people, and she wanted the opposite.”
