Britney Spears is set to leave Los Angeles to get away from her dumped husband Kevin Federline.

Friends reckon she will ditch the Malibu mansion where she and “K-Fed” spent so much time arguing and move to New York to relaunch her pop career.

One pal said: “Everywhere Britney has been in New York, people have been really nice to her.

“It’s the kind of place she needs right now. She wants to buy somewhere to raise her family, a place that’s kid-friendly.

“She wants to meet a nice guy and she doesn’t want to be isolated in some mansion. She’s done that already and it’s not good for her.”

The star’s brother Bryan is based in Manhattan and is said to be behind her decision to move to the Big Apple.

Britney, 24, texted Federline, 28, on Monday to say she was divorcing him. They both want custody of Jayden James - born eight weeks ago - and 14-month-old Sean Preston.

The pop tart is also hoping for a coveted cover at a respected magazine. You know, one that doesn’t include the words “People” or “Weekly” in it. Offering up the pics for free will be a huge negotating tactic when it comes to getting a monthly glossy to spin her story the way she sees fit. And to think: All Graydon Carter will require to hand over a Vanity Fair cover are the intimate details of the divorcing couple’s sex lives.

Spears stunned her aspiring rapper spouse on Tuesday (07NOV06) when she filed legal papers seeking the dissolution of their two-year marriage and sole custody of their two sons Sean Preston, 14 months; and Jayden James, two months. Federline was unemployed when Spears paid $6.9 million (GBP3.8 million) for the eight-bedroom home following their October 2004 wedding. The lavish abode includes an outdoor kitchen, spa, gym, tennis courts, $150,000 (GBP83,000) nursery and a recording studio. The New York Post reports Spears is asking $13.5 million (GBP7.5 million) for the mansion.

TMZ has learned Kevin Federline was speaking to his lawyer about divorcing Britney Spears more than a month before she filed legal papers to end the marriage.

Sources say Federline was communicating with attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan, talking about divorcing Spears and angling to cash in on her fortune. Federline’s right to money is extremely limited because of the prenup. TMZ knows the terms of the prenup, and they are not good news for K-Fed. We’re told the only thing he’ll get is less than 20% of the value of the couple’s Malibu estate, valued at approximately $10 million, and spousal support for one year. We’re told the support he’ll get is less than $250,000.

As for reports that Britney e-mailed her hubby to inform him that she was about to file divorce papers, it simply is not true. Sources tell us that the couple has not been speaking for weeks, but e-mailing each other. She did not, however, talk about divorce in those e-mails. K-Fed learned of the divorce at the time TMZ broke the story that Spears had filed.

Sources say that at least for now, Spears will not comment on K-Fed’s plan to fight her for custody of their two children. We know, however, that Spears sees K-Fed’s move as nothing more than an attempt to score some money. He’s banking on Spears forking over dough to avoid a fight; an unlikely outcome — given the fact that she’s represented by legal pit bull Laura Wasser. Also, if K-Fed got custody, he’d be entitled to a significant amount in child support.

Kevin Federline has responded to his estranged wife’s divorce petition.

Federline is asking for legal and physical custody of the couple’s children. Sources tell TMZ that Federline will fight Spears on the custody issue. In the response, obtained by TMZ, Federline is asking the judge to award Spears visitation.

Federline is also asking the court to award him spousal support.

Federline’s lawyer, Mark Kaplan, filed the response Wednesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

In her petition, Spears asked for sole physical and legal custody of the kids.

It’s nearly impossible to see straight, what with our hyperventilating this past hour, regarding the divorce of American royalty Britney Spears and Kevin Federline. But nearly minutes after the initial announcement, details are already emerging over their pre-nuptual agreement. Pre-marriage, K-Fed was dancing his way to $30,000 a year. Post marriage? Even his cornrows are crying. From an Us Magazine article from December 2005, the details of their pre-nup:

-K-Fed won’t touch a penny of Britney’s money. All the millions belonging to Britney will stay that way.

-The mansion will be divided 50/50.

-Any gift given worth over $10,000 will go back to the original purchaser. This includes a custom-built motorcycle Brit gave K-Fed for Christmas 2 years ago.

-She will still support him for a little while longer. Brit will pay Kevin $30,000 a month for the period of time that is half the length of their marriage. Meaning he’ll be well sneakered until at least a year from now.

-Spears won’t pay child support. Federline is still responsible for supporting his other two children with previous baby momma Shar Jackson. Luckily, Britney should be able to put food on the table for at least another 200,000 more years.

Britney Spears has filed for divorce from her husband of two years, Kevin Federline, PEOPLE has confirmed.

L.A. Superior Court spokesperson Pat Kelly tells PEOPLE, “Yes, it’s confirmed. It was filed today, on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.” TMZ.com was the first to report the filing.

Spears and Federline wed in September 2004 and have two sons, Sean Preston, 1, and Jayden James, who was born Sept. 12.

According legal documents filed on Tuesday in Los Angeles, Spears seeks custody of both boys, with Federline getting visitation rights.

Spears gives a separation date of Monday. She asks that each party pay their own legal fees and waives her right to spousal support. She also requests that certain assets, including “miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects,” be confirmed as separate property.

She and Federline, 28, both spent the weekend in New York City, but Spears did not appear at any of the events promoting Federline’s new CD, Playing with Fire.

Still, on Friday night at his record release party at the Manhattan hot spot Stereo, Federline shot down rumors of strife in his marriage, telling PEOPLE, “I don’t waste any energy thinking about these things. I don’t get caught up in it.”

But the previous week, he admitted that, because of his touring schedule, “I’m not going to see my family as much as I want to, but I mean, those are the sacrifices you make as an artist.”

Britney Spears and her husband Kevin Federline have named their new baby boy - Jayden James Federline.

The celebrity couple’s new bundle of joy’s name was revealed by BBC this week as the parents continue to be coy about what they’ve called their new baby boy. The child’s name was revealed after his birth certificate was filed with officials. Spears, 24, and Federline, 28, have yet to confirm the news, said Foxnews.com.

Federline, during an appearance Thursday in Los Angeles on the 101 network’s music show “CD USA,” would not reveal his second son’s name. “I will leave that to my wife to announce,” the aspiring rapper told a reporter.

When he arrived, according to some news reports, the boy’s name was Sutton Pierce. Speculation has bubbled since that the baby was called something else.

Spears and Federline, aka K-Fed, were married in September 2004. They have another son, Sean Preston, 1, and Federline has two children from a previous relationship.

Federline also spoke of his favourite TV shows like “America’s Next Top Model” and commenting upon show’s host Tyra Banks, he said: “I’m a huge sucker for the show. My wife, she really likes to watch it, so I’ll always catch myself sitting there and she’ll turn it on and that’s it, we’re glued to the TV.”
